In a baptism service, we invite those receiving baptism (for themselves or for their children) to make the following expressions of faith and commitment:
[For Youth/Adults Being Baptized]
- I admit that I am a sinner, and that I need Jesus to save me from the penalty and power of my sin.
- I believe in Jesus as my Savior; I believe that am God’s child through faith in Him, and that His Spirit lives in me.
- I commit myself to obeying Jesus as my Lord, to serving Him with my life, and to actively sharing in the life of His church.
[For Infants/Children Being Baptized]
- We confess Jesus Christ as our Lord and Saviour; we accept the promises of God, and we affirm the truth of the Christian faith which is proclaimed in the Bible and confessed in this church of Christ!
- We believe that our children, though sinful by nature, are received by God in Christ as members of His covenant, and therefore ought to be baptized!
- We promise, in reliance on the Holy Spirit and with the help of the Christian community, to do all in our power to instruct our children in the Christian faith and to lead them by our example to be Christ’s disciples!
As you express your faith and make your promises before the Lord, you will also be encouraged by the Church Family with their commitment to you and your children:
We promise to receive you (and your family) in love, to pray for you, to encourage you in your faith, and to care for you in the fellowship of this church.
