There are different ways that baptism has been practiced:
- Through total immersion in water, to represent being buried and raised up with Christ. (Romans 6:4)
- Through sprinkling with water, to represent the sprinkled blood of the Old Covenant that washed away sin (Hebrews 10:22)
- Through pouring water, to represent the outpouring of the Holy Spirit in baptism. (Romans 5:5)
All of these are symbols, and each one has its own value and impact. But the Bible nowhere demands one method over another; its emphasis lies on the important meaning symbolized by the water.
Our tradition practices sprinkling or pouring water on the forehead of the persons being baptized.
