Sometimes we ask “Why can’t they do it?
Actually, they can’t afford to do it – which means they have no resources, (eg. no brushes, tools, hardware). With a working visa granted by the government, we can show our support by serving and doing what they can’t afford to do. The job is a simple task, do a good job, do it quickly and spend more time getting to know the local residents perhaps plant seeds in their hearts. With this working visa, we can spend the entire week in church company whereas the case in previous visits was limited to a couple of days only worshipping with and delivering gifts.
We realize there is a lot to learn about Cuba, the people, their struggles and concerns. As Christians, we need to see this as a chance to learn and not as a service to perform. What challenges do they face? What can we do to help while seeking out a long-term relationship?
